As a Laparoscopic General Surgeon and Assistant Professor at Government Stanley Medical College, I have had the privilege of training over 50 MS postgraduates and more than 1,500 MBBS doctors. My journey has taken me across multiple hospitals in North and South Chennai, where I frequently interact with duty doctors—many of whom are foreign medical graduates (FMGs).
During my surgical rounds, I noticed a recurring pattern: these FMGs had completed their medical education abroad, obtained their certificates and licenses, yet struggled to pass the FMG exam conducted by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The reason? Their education system relied on passive learning—PowerPoint slides, reading material, and minimal interaction—leaving them ill-prepared for the depth of understanding required in India’s competitive exams.
As I spoke with these young doctors, they expressed their frustration:
“Sir, if only we had been taught like this from the beginning, we would have passed in our first attempt!”
Many encouraged me to start an academy, saying my teaching style made complex topics easier to understand.
